A. Tau is induced by the treatment of neurons with a neurotrophin, a chemical that promotes the neuron's survival. In the case of neurons treated with a class of neurotrophins known as brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), it activates 2 survival pathways, as indicated by 2 different colors in the figure. The filtered-out blue text above the proteins indicates that they belong to a particular protein family yet are not involved in the BDNF signaling pathway. Multiple protein families are represented in the figure. All 4 BDNF exon 10-targeted transcripts appear in the filtered-out blue text above the proteins. The graph shows how the ratios of the exon 10-targeted transcripts differ from Control Down and Control up. The blue on the graph represents the protein enriched for the differently expressed genes of Down and Up as well as that for ASD. The blue outline next to some of the genes represents the BDNF-targeted exons 3, 4A, 6, and 8. BDNF, brain-derived neurotrophic factor. Two colors, consisting of blue and yellow are applied to the exons 3, 4A, 6, and 8-targeted transcripts in reference to the BDNF signaling pathway. The figure is modified from Figure 8 of [9]. 7211a4ac4a
